Eleanor Tipton joined Poet Lore in August 2016 after teaching writing at The University of Maryland for four years. Her poetry has appeared in Bennington Review, Best New Poets, Pleiades, Beltway, and Drunken Boat among other places. She is the former Poetry Editor of So To Speak: A Feminist Journal of Language and Art. She received assistantships and awards for her MFA coursework from George Mason University studying epic poetry and experimental forms; as an undergraduate, she majored in English and Spanish at Texas State University where she translated Latin American poets. Outside of academia, she worked as an activist with The Public Interest Network fundraising for organizations such as The Human Rights Campaign and Environment America.
